Subaru has begun showing off images of its redesigned Forester SUV ahead of its official introduction at the 2008 North American International Auto Show.

The third-generation Forester has - as Subaru says - a bolder, more SUV-like design, and makes a 'major leap in safety technology, comfort refinement and driving dynamics.' It shares many of the same design characteristics of the new Tribeca and Impreza.

All 2009 Foresters will feature standard side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor, as well as the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction control system, all for the first time.

As always, the Forester - like each and every Subaru model - will feature the automakers symmetrical all-wheel drive system. Subaru says it also optimized the Forester's chassis to deliver a better balance of ride, handling response, quietness and overall traction performance than its competition.
