A new Phantom is ready to swoop down on the automotive landscape.

Rolls-Royce announced a coupé version of its world-famous Phantom luxury car for 2008. The automaker calls the coupé 'the most driver-orientated model in the Phantom line'. It is powered by the same 6.75-litre V12 that is found in the Phantom, but has a 25 per cent fuel capacity increase, so it can go for longer distances between fill ups.

Rolls-Royce also says the Phantom coupé has 'segment-leading fuel economy' ... though we're not quite sure what other vehicles you'd put in the same category as the Phantom coupé.

The vehicle is made up of an aluminum chassis, which is both lightweight and very strong. Each Phantom coupé body is hand-made and requires 130 meters of welding to create.

The Phantom coupé is meant to 'cover great distances effortlessly', and it all starts with entering the vehicle, which is made easier even for rear seat occupants thanks to the rear-hinged doors. These doors also help make this the most torsionally rigid Rolls-Royce ever, as they allow for an uninterrupted A-pillar.

A 'picnic boot' can be found at the rear of the Phantom coupé, which splits into two parts and provides 395 litres of space. Rolls-Royce says the lower tailgate can be used as a seating platform for a couple of people when lowered.
