BMW has announced that the John Cooper Works models will be integrated into the MINI family as the MINI John Cooper Works brand, with its first two entries destined to be the MINI John Cooper Works and MINI John Cooper Works Clubman.

The brand and models will be unveiled to the public at the 2008 International Automobile Salon in Geneva and arriving in Canadian showrooms in summer 2008.

Both John Cooper Works models will feature a newly developed high-performance version of the highly-acclaimed 1.6 litre 16-valve 4-cylinder engine with twin scroll turbocharger and direct injection. Delivering 207 horsepower and 192 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,850 and 5,600 rpm, which can be overboosted momentarily during heavy acceleration to 207 lb.-ft.

The company reports that would take the car from 0-100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds, with the MINI John Cooper Works Clubman slightly slower at 6.8 seconds.

High-performance brakes, sports suspension, specially calibrated electrically power-assisted steering, a low-back-pressure exhaust system, a specially-modified six-speed manual transmission and exclusive 17-inch light alloy wheels with high-performance tires, complete the performance transformations.

The Dynamic Stability Control System (DSC) uses Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) for the first time in a MINI, as well as a unique Electronic Differential Lock Control to enhance stability and cornering ability during aggressive driving.

A wide range of individualization options will allow buyers to choose from paint-finishes, interior trim and upholstery, and a wide array of dealer accessories, all specially developed under the John Cooper Works label.

“The new MINI John Cooper Works brand brings MINI's legendary racing and high-performance driving relationship to a new level,” says Stephen McDonnell, Director of MINI Canada, adding “The MINI John Cooper Works and John Cooper Works Clubman models will appeal to the true driving enthusiast and make a very exciting statement.”
