As the Z coupe readies for its public introduction at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Nissan has released preliminary photos of the car, now called 370Z to indicate its engine displacement.

The previous generation used a tweaked-up version of the venerable VQ engine in 3.5-litre displacement. The new car will get a version of the 3.7 V6 currently used in Infiniti’s G37 coupe. There, it makes 330 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque, though outputs are likely to be tweaked up a bit for use in the 370Z.

Otherwise, changes are more evolutionary than revolutionary, as they have been in current new model changes in the Nissan and Infiniti lineups. The car is due in dealerships early in 2009.
