Youthful exuberance

Toyota’s youthful and stylish brand makes its debut in Canada in 2010 and one of its offerings epitomizes what Scion is all about.

The value packed tC sport coupe offers a generous standard content list, combined with miserly fuel economy and fun to drive characteristics. The standard variable valve timed 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine is mated to either a standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic, and a fully independent front strut/rear double wishbone suspension smoothes out the ride while combining with a wide, long stance to return responsive handling. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) is standard.

Other safety features include front seat-mounted side airbags, full side air curtain airbags, driver’s knee bag, tire pressure monitor system, three-point seatbelts for five seating positions and a first aid kit.

And because the youthful crowd loves its tunes, the tC features a standard 160-watt maximum output Pioneer AM/FM/CD audio system iPod USB connector (with information on the radio display screen), AUX port for other MP3 players, subwoofer under the cargo area and steering wheel audio controls. An available premium sound system adds upload capabilities, display choices and the capability to add additional speakers and base-thumpers.

The interior treatment is meant to portray the look of premium hi-fi systems while extensive use of sound deadening materials keeps unwanted noise out of the cabin and limits sound output outside the vehicle.

For easy rear seat access, the front seats feature a memory-return and wide step-in opening. Getting out is equally easy thanks to a high-mounted lever. The rear seats are split 60/40 to extend the cargo space nearly flat to the trunk floor, and have a 10-position, 45 degree recline feature.

Other standard features include a panoramic glass power moonroof (a first in this segment), exterior mirrors with integrated turn signal lights, power locks with remote, power windows and mirrors, rear cargo tonneau cover, chrome exhaust tip and a unique audio unit cover.
