LOS ANGELES - Essentially unchanged from the concept car, Cadillac's 2011 CTS coupe was revealed just prior to the Los Angeles Auto Show. Featuring the clean, modern elements established by the Arts and Science design philosophy, the CTS Coupe presents a refreshingly simple yet dramatic profile aimed at being the centrepiece of the Cadillac lineup.

There are no door handles to mar the flow of the clean, uninterrupted lines, instead there are simple "touch panels" similar to the XLR's. True dual exhaust exits the rear fascia in a twin, centre outlet. The swooping roofline offers a hatch-like appearance, and culminates in the boomerang brake light that doubles as a spoiler.

Although loosely based on the sedan, the coupe has a 2" wider stance and shares only instrument panel, console, headlights, front fenders and grille. The coupe's suspension is more specifically tuned for performance.

Clay Dean, Design Director for the Cadillac Brand considers the CTS Coupe to be a "masculine focused car" targeted to the "forwardly mobile buyer, someone at the peak, rather than the tail end of their career."

The standard powertrain is a 3.6 litre V6 with 304 hp, coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. Two suspension options are offered: Performance Package with 18" wheels clad in all-season rubber, offered in RWD and AWD, Summer Peformance Package features 19", summer tire clad wheels and better road holding. A six-speed automatic transmission is optional.

A performance oriented "V" model is in the works. Although the CTS is to be a globally marketed car, there are no plans for a diesel model as yet.

Available in fall of 2011, the CTS Coupe is suspected to slot, sales-wise, between the sedan and the wagon.
