Rogue puts fun in functionality

Nissan says it’s again putting the “fun” in functionality with the reworking of the diminutive Rogue for 2011.

The obvious change is in the refreshed exterior appearance, though the interior has also been refined with added technology and convenience features, many of which weren’t available on previous Rogues. Among them, a navigation system, rearview camera and USB port for linking up external music sources. Safety concerns are addressed by front active headrests, front airbags, front side-impact airbags and side air curtains.

A height adjustable driver’s seat (by two inches) is standard, as is a trip computer, Bluetooth, and a multifunction steering wheel (with standard cruise control). The rear seatbacks fold forward in a 60/40 split with a cargo cover available as an option. Leather seating, heated front seats and a fold-flat front passenger seat are also optional.

Rogue adds a trim level for 2011 and now comes in S, SV and SL (SV is actually the equivalent of the previous generation’s SL). Drivetrains continue to be front wheel (S and SV) and all wheel drive (all three trims). Power is supplied by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and delivered by Nissan’s Xtronic continuously variable transmission. Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Traction Control System (TCS) are standard.

The fully independent suspension (front strut with stabilizer/rear multi-link) provides a stable stance on the road and off it. Braking is entrusted to a four-wheel disc anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

Rogue S models ride on 16-inch steel wheels, while SV and SL models use 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels (upgradable to 18-inch alloy wheel with a premium package).

“We picture the typical Rogue driver after they drop the kids off at school, lowering the windows, turning up the Bose® audio and thinking about escaping to the wild – their briefcase and gear tucked securely in the back – before turning back towards the office,” said Mark McDade, Director, Marketing, Nissan Canada Inc. “Rogue not only makes such a scenario possible, but encourages such adventures.”
