Hybrid version best looking Optima yet

Kia is on a roll, with sales in the U.S up a whopping 48% since the introduction of the Soul in 2010.

When you’re hot, you’re hot and the Korean automaker’s first ever hybrid, making its world debut here, turned the temperature up a few more degrees on the midsize opposition.

The hybrid version may be the best looking Optima yet, and that’s saying something. It’s powered by a 2.4L gas engine coupled to an electric motor that makes 206 hp while delivering best-in-class highway fuel economy in the range of 5.8 L/100 km. Unlike most hybrids, Optima uses a standard 6-speed automatic rather than a continuously variable transmission.

The lithium polymer battery is one third lighter than the opposition’s hybrid batteries.

Packed with features such as a panoramic sunroof and heated and cooled front seats, Optima Hybrid goes on sale early next year. Pricing has not been finalized.
