Upgraded Accord for the sportier family

Need a little upgrade to your daily life? What about your daily drive? Who doesn't need that?

The new Acura TSX may cure what ails you.

This edition of the TSX is a second edition derivative of the Honda Accord and while they both share the same profile I've stated previously that I felt the Accord looks more like an Acura anyway.

This isn't the first car to have an Acura/Honda connection; the Civic and CSX are genetic twins as well. The only thing is the CSX, while it's nice, is a little hard to stomach with its premium over an upgraded Civic. Not so with the TSX; and at a price of just over 40 grand, it can be considered a steal for what you get.

Search for a used Acura TSX

The TSX looks sharp, starting with the in-your-face grille or for a better description, moustache, all the way to the rear tail-lights. The chiselled features certainly give the TSX a cool presence. It sits on simple 17-inch alloy wheels, which may appear bland to some, but do fit with the overall design.

One nice surprise is found under the hood. The 2.4-litre inline four packs a decent punch at 201 horsepower and 170 lb.-ft. of torque. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised considering it's Honda's i-VTEC engine, but when you think you're driving a six-cylinder and you find out it's not, then, like I said, it's a pleasant surprise.

Inside, TSX treats occupants with leather upholstery, which is great for parents of accident prone kids. I just hope they don't continue to make a habit of dripping ice-cream all over cars. The seats are comfortable up front and come with a heating functions and power adjustments (eight way for the driver; four-way for the passenger).

Taller rear passengers may have to ask for a little more room for their legs, but my kids never mentioned a thing about being too cramped. They did manage to stretch their legs out just enough to leave tiny prints on the backs of the front seats. Again, easy enough to clean up.

There isn't much chance of getting lost either, when you use the navigation system. In the past model the screen was a little tough to see (especially when the sun was in your face) but whatever tinkering was done really works for me now.

A power moonroof, premium seven-speaker audio system with XM radio, Bluetooth interface and power controls for everything top off the interior amenities. The driver gets to manage the audio system, cruise, Bluetooth and paddle shifting all without taking hands off the wheel.

Pop open the rear deck lid and you'll find another surprise: a huge trunk. More than enough room for the odd sized boxes you load up at Costco. And if you find a good deal on a flat screen TV, you can fold down the 60/40 split rear seats.

The TSX is a nimble ride out on the open and not-so-open roads. Cornering is a breeze and with help from the traction control there is little concern that you can't keep it pointed in the right direction.

With power everything, a million handy gadgets and gizmos plus power and room for your family or friends, the TSX makes good on being a premium vehicle, without making you pay a premium price.

That's good for everyone.
