TSX rolls with the changes

Making change for the sake of change can lead to ... well ... some bad changes.

Thankfully, Acura hasn’t made that many changes to the 2010 TSX. The sharp angular exterior styling remains and it’s loaded with gadgets you’d expect from an upscale model.

The only real change comes in the form of more power.

And who doesn’t like more power?

The 3.5-litre V6 powerplant packs a formidable 280 horsepower and 254 lb.-ft. of torque. Touch the accelerator and the TSX jumps right off the line and keeps the momentum up right through the five-speed automatic.

With the paddle shifters on the steering wheel you too can feel like an F1 racer. It’s not my thing, mind you, and I’m not that much of a control freak, so I don’t mind letting the car do all the work for me.

Even with the 280 ponies going to the front wheels, the TSX handles it pretty well. There isn’t any sense you’re going to go shooting off into the next lane because the traction control couldn’t kick in fast enough.

The ride has a nice sporty feel about it, with just enough stiffness to make quick cornering, while providing a decent ride for cruising.

Mmmm ... I love the smell of leather in the morning. And during the day. And at night. In the TSX, that’s no exception.

The body hugging front seats and 60/40 split rear seats are all covered in leathery goodness. The steering wheel and shifter are also treated to the blackened hide. The power front seats get an added bum warming function.

Look further up the centre console to the dash and you are bombarded by a stack of buttons and a couple knobs. All of which handle the functions for the climate control system, the audio system, map guidance system and numerous other functions.

There may be a lot of things to look at, but the items are labelled with large letters and, with some time behind the wheel or in the passenger seat, things are easy to pick up.

The steering wheel also comes with several clusters of buttons for the audio system, cruise control, vehicle information and Bluetooth phone system.

There are numerous audio jacks, a USB port and a power outlet all ready go in the centre console, hidden away nicely.

Leg room up front is good, but rear passengers might have some trouble (although my kids managed to stretch out enough to leave footprint art all over the backs of the front seats).

For an upscale sedan, the Acura TSX certainly manages to blend in nice mix of sportiness and luxury into a sharp package.
