The Mitsubishi Galant will hit dealerships in the spring of 2001, featuring a new exterior design, along with some interior design enhancements.

"The Galant embodies the stylish looks and fun-to-drive personality that have made all of our vehicles so popular, and this new 2002 Galant will continue to lead our brand to even greater success in this competitive market," said Pierre Gagnon, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America.

The 2002 Galant sports a new front fascia that uses a corporate grille design seen on previous Mitsubishi vehicles, and that will now adorn future products, the company said. This new styling splits the front grille into two halves and adds a more aggressive look, Mitsubishi said.

There are also lower bumper intakes that are larger and wrap around toward the sides, with more aerodynamic bodywork for efficient airflow management. The rear of the Galant now incorporates a clear, red-tinted tail light cluster with multi-reflector-type design for improved light distribution.

Two different engine types make the new Galant tick; a 4-cylinder and V6 model, which meet Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) exhaust levels. The displacement is 2.4-litres, but Mitsubishi did not reveal full details of the car's performance level.
