Mitsubishi has unveiled the all-new 2002 Lancer, a European-inspired sedan it says features a host of luxury features designed to provide a level of sophistication and class not found in other small sedans in the American marketplace.

Borrowing its name from the Mitsubishi World Rally Championship car, Lancer will be available in three distinct models: the entry-level ES, the sporty O-Z Rally edition, and the luxurious LS.

Lancer incorporates a large greenhouse for excellent visibility while also providing an airy, spacious cabin. The high roofline combines with a long wheelbase and cab-forward design to create 93.9 cu. ft. of passenger room -- enough for five adults to ride in comfort. Lancer features upright seating that improves driver and passenger posture while also making it easier to get into and out of the car. Slightly elevated stadium-style rear seating provides passengers with more legroom, and a scenic view of the surroundings.

A Mitsubishi 2.0-litre, 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine produces 120 horses reined in by either a standard 5-speed manual or optional 4-speed automatic. Four wheel independent front strut and rear multi-link suspension absorbs road irregularities and provides a comfortable and stable ride.

Lancer will be available at US Mitsubishi retailers beginning in August 2001, and will be an integral part of the Canadian lineup when the car launches here in 2003.
