Daewoo promises luxury at an affordable price with its all-new 2003 Leganza, which made its debut at the 2002 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto.

Leganza boasts a bigger engine than the Toyota Camry and more interior space than the Honda Accord, and Daewoo claims its car is ahead of both competitors in terms of price.

The Italian exterior design is, according to the company, "distinguished and muscular," with a focus on the triple headlamps, Daewoo signature grille. The bumpers and trunk have been redesigned to evoke luxury, style and speed.

On the inside, the leather upholstry is even more refined than in models past, and the seats come with an optional pre-heating function. Daewoo has chosen a "dramatic" design that focuses on the instrument panel, whose three-circle form is made for easy reference. The Leganza also features an AM/FM/CD/ETR Sony stereo with six speakers.

Under the hood, the Leganza is powered by an inline six-cylinder, DTEC 2.2 litre 16-valve engine that delivers 131 horsepower, mated to a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

Safety-wise, the car is equipped with driver and passenger-side dual-stage air bags, oval-type side-impact beams, larger bumpers and the biggest trunk capacity in its class. Also included are safety belts with electronic pretensioners, as well as a soft-surface instrument panel to maximize passenger safety.

Pricing for the 2002 Leganza starts at $19,695 Cdn.
