S stands for sensational. At least that's what Jaguar's executives say when it comes to the 2003 S-TYPE.

"The S-TYPE has caused nothing less than a sensation since we introduced it in 1998," Sue Callaway, vice president and general manager of Jaguar North America said in a statement released by Jaguar. "When we looked at what to update for the 2003 S-TYPE, we knew needed to keep the original car's magic, but add a little spice."

The "spice" comes in part from its all-new, supercharged 400 horsepower 4.2 litre V8 S-TYPE R engine, and a new five-speed manual transmission 3.0 litre V6 model. All models feature a completely redesigned interior with optional touch-screen display, and an enhanced occupant safety system.

Drivers also have the option of a new six-speed ZF automatic transmission, available across the range, which complements the revised Jaguar 240 hp 3.0 litre AJ-V6 engine and the larger capacity 4.2 litre AJ-V8 engine, in both normally-aspirated 300 hp and supercharged 400 hp forms.

Jaguar Canada has announced the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP). Leading the pack is the S-TYPE R model, the most powerful production car to be produced by the British manufacturer, according to a statement released by Jaguar Canada. The supercharged V8 model is fitted with a six-speed automatic, and is priced at $89,950. A 3.0 litre V6 model with five-speed manual will be available from $59,950.

Jaguar is betting that the bestselling model will be the 3.0 litre V6 with a new six-speed automatic, that retails for $61,950 Cdn.

In addition to powertrain changes, about 70 per cent of the S-TYPE's content is new for the 2003 model range. That includes an all-new interior and new suspension set-up.

The S-TYPE premiered in 1999, and has sold more than 135,000 cars to date.
