A "mini" Kia vehicle is set to make a big splash at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Laced with "sporty, modern lines," the new vehicle is Kia's first entry-level car to hit the European market.

The "A-segment" vehicle, whose name is still a secret, is described as a "zesty" car with "head-turning looks," according to a statement released by Kia. The exterior of the 5-door Kia is inspired by European tastes and preferences, and will be available in a four and a five-seat version. It will offer 157 litres of storage space with the rear seats up, and 882 litres with the seats folded down. Kia claims the vehicle boasts the most passenger space in its class, the automaker said.

The mini-Kia will also lead in terms of carbon dioxide figures, the company said, with the 1.0 litre engine offering 120 g/km, and the 1.1 litre version offering 130 g/km for five-speed manual and 153 g/km for four-speed automatic.

Aimed at "Generation Y" buyers, the mini-Kia will come with a choice of 14" or 15" alloy wheels and instant mobility system instead of spare tire, which the company says boosts interior space and increases the safety and versatility of the car. Kia says the mini-car will also be equipped with the latest in safety standards.

"Our new A-class car offers a blend of contemporary styling and a full range of features. It is tailor-made for the active lifestyle favoured by the younger generation," says Kia Motors COO Yong-hwan Kim.

The name of the mini-Kia, and the car itself, will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show on Sept. 9, 2003. The vehicle will remain on display until Sept. 21.
