Saturn continues its drive to offer a diverse stable of family vehicles with its largest offering yet, the 2005 RELAY minivan (based on GM's extended front-drive platform).

Saturn calls the 7-seat RELAY a crossover sport van, saying it combines SUV styling with the functionality and versatility of a minivan. The company expects RELAY to meet the needs of existing Saturn owners with growing families and active lifestyles, as well as attracting a new group of customers, since 50 percent of purchasers in the minivan segment are first-time buyers (and 40 percent of whom usually look to Japanese nameplates).

RELAY's exterior is recognizably Saturn and features cues to reinforce a strong, durable image -- wide, prominent, exposed C-pillars (a traditional SUV styling cue) and large 17-inch wheels and wide tires (for a sturdy, aggressive stance). Two-tone exterior colour treatment adds a touch of elegance while furthering the lower-body armoured image of rugged SUVs. A roof-rack completes the picture.

Available in two trim levels, RELAY will feature a clean and contemporary interior with such features as a front overhead console and overhead rail system, spacious and flexible rear convenience center/cargo system, foldable and removable middle and rear seats, rear 50/50 split fold flat bench, and leading edge rear seat entertainment system with an optional DVD player with flip-down screen, and integrated controls.

RELAY uses a unique light maple color woodgrain trim in door inserts and around the radio and HVAC controls. Seats feature cloth inserts with bolsters made of a new vinyl that provides leather-like look, feel and wear. Leather-appointed seats are available.

RELAY standard features include power heated outside mirrors, an AM/FM stereo radio with CD/MP3 player, power windows and power locks with remote. Upgrades include a 6-way power driver's seat, rear HVAC controls, power rear quarter windows, alarm system and a cargo area storage module.

Safety items include standard 4-wheel 16-inch brake discs fitted with ABS and OnStar assistance and communications system. Traction control, StabiliTrak (GM's advanced vehicle stability enhancement system) and Versatrak all-wheel drive are available.
