The Buick Lucerne is a front-wheel drive car that continues Buick's legacy in the large luxury sedan market.

Buick expects the Lucerne to account for a large chunk of its overall sales - 75% to be exact - by appealing to many new customers.

The Lucerne is chalk full of some of the newest technology available in vehicles today. It has a remote starter, heated washer fluid, DVD map, heated and cooled seats, as well as a nine-speaker, 245-watt audio system.

"As Buick's third all-new vehicle in a little over a year, Lucerne shows just how quickly we are leveraging some of the most innovative technology in the industry to establish it as a premium sedan," said General Manager John Larson.

For the first time in a decade, a Buick car will be available with a V-8 engine thanks to the Lucerne. It features a 4.6-litre 32-valve DOHC engine that's estimated to have 275-horsepower. The V-8 will be optional on the CXL model and standard on the CXS model. A V-6 is also available that has an estimated 195-horsepower output (standard on CX and CXL models).

Buick is aiming to make the Lucerne an extremely safe vehicle as well. It features six standard air bags including the industry's first 'dual-depth' air bag. It senses different factors, such as seating position and severity of crash, to then deploy at a reduced or increases depth. Other safety features include Stabilitrak, which boosts braking power when needed in emergency situations, combined with brake assist.

The Lucerne's exterior features Buick's a new 'waterfall' grille with chrome headlamps on either side of it. It will sit on 18-inch wheels and the CSX model will include chrome-tipped dual exhaust pipes.

Pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
