The new BMW K 1200 GT opens up new dimensions in riding dynamics and long-distance qualities, says the Bavarian company with claims that its new top-end motorcycle combines maximum agility and dynamic performance.

The development engineers at BMW Motorrad have carried over the trendsetting running gear (Duolever suspension at the front and the EVO-Paralever at the rear) and engine technology of the former K 1200 S and K 1200 R into this new sporting tourer.

Drive power comes from the cutting-edge straight-4 in transverse arrangement, developing a segment-leading maximum power of 152 hp in the new GT — a horsepower improvement of 17 percent from the previous model, to go along with an 11 percent increase in torque (peaking at 96 lbs.ft). Thanks to a reduction in weight of six percent, BMW says that should translate into a cruising range increase of 17 percent. Transfer of power is handled by a 6-speed manual.

Braking is entrusted to BMW's EVO brake system, consisting of a 12.6-inch front and 11.6-inch rear disc with integral ABS. The front and rear brakes are activated by the handbrake lever, while a footbrake lever acts only on the rear wheel.

Riding comfort is enhanced by an electrically adjustable windscreen (over a range of nearly four inches at the push of a button), ergonomically designed seat with height adjustment (32.3 or 33.1 inches) and handlebar that adjust towards the rider over a range of 1.6 inches. A lower seat (31.5 inches) is available.

Other standards include a fully controlled three-way catalytic converter (for improved emissions), high-performance EVO brake system with semi-integral ABS anti-lock brakes (with brake pad wear indicator), and an electronic engine immobiliser.

Apart from comfort-oriented options and accessories (such as side storage pods and a higher windscreen), the K 1200 GT can also be equipped with Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA, which allows the rider to adjust the spring/damper setting at the push of a button), tire pressure control, an on-board computer, xenon headlight, cruise control, and navigation system.

The aerodynamically optimised fairing is made up of two plastic shells and the load-bearing headlight unit at the front, for easy removal and refitting for maintenance and service.

Three colour choices are offered (Dark Graphite Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, and Crystal Grey Metallic) in combination with two available colours for the side covers (on the tank and below the seat) and seat.
