After its unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011 and its presentation at the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance in Italy in summer 2012, it’s now Montreal’s turn to welcome the Rimac Concept One.
An exceptional electric concept, this Croatian coupe will unfortunately have to forsake its trip overseas; a slight accident has ruined the likelihood of its passage among us. Indeed, the organization of the Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) was very proud to have the exotic car make its North American debut at the salon.
The hazards of transporting a car as delicate as porcelain mean that sometimes, accidents happen. And that’s exactly what happened with the Concept One. We don’t know the actual extent of the damage, but one thing has been confirmed: it will not grace the metropolitan area with its presence, after all.
It must be said that the Rimac had every chance of stealing the show at the MIAS. Just reading the datasheet is enough to almost make you dizzy. We’re talking here about an exotic electric capable of developing a combined capacity of about 1,088 horsepower via its four electric motors. In terms of performance, the company refers to an acceleration time that pulverizes the 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. What’s also impressive is the range of the Concept One: over 600 km! This data alone is simply remarkable, as makes this electric car the one with the longest range in the world.
Like all the great supercars of the world, its price is likely to “make your head spin.” The company won’t let one of its creations out of its sight for less than $980,000; we’re now rubbing elbows with the likes of a Bugatti Veyron, Pagani and other Koenigseggs. Being optimistic about the future of its product, Rimac Automobili hopes to sell the 88 units meant to be produced. We’re given no delivery dates or any other details about the project’s viability in the short term. One thing is certain, though: it is simply spectacular both in print and images!
